The Northern Territory Government’s HomeGrown Territory Grant offers a fantastic opportunity for first-home buyers to secure their dream property with financial support. With generous grants of up to $50,000 available, this initiative can help you take that all-important first step into homeownership.

What is the HomeGrown Territory Grant?

The HomeGrown Territory Grant replaces the previous $10,000 First Home Owner Grant, providing $50,000 to eligible first-home buyers to put towards building or buying a new home. This grant is available for new builds, transportable homes (permanently fixed), owner-built homes, and off-the-plan purchases—with no cap on the purchase or construction price.

For those looking at established homes, the grant offers $10,000 towards homes like houses, townhouses, and apartments. Whether you're building new or purchasing an established home, the HomeGrown Territory Grant opens the door to homeownership in the NT with substantial financial support.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a first-home buyer who has never owned property in Australia.
  • Sign a purchase or construction contract in the NT between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025.
  • Purchase a home that has never been previously occupied or sold (for new builds).
  • Apply as an individual (not a company or trust), with at least one applicant over 18.
  • Have one applicant who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Plan to live in the home for a minimum of 12 months.

Important Note: The HomeGrown Territory Grant cannot be used in combination with the FreshStart new home grant, so ensure you choose the right support option for your needs.

When and How is the Grant Paid?

If you’re financing through a lender, the grant amount will be paid directly to them upon confirmation of eligibility. For direct applications through the Territory Revenue Office, grant payments occur at different stages:

  • For new purchases: after settlement.
  • For new builds: once the foundation is laid.
  • For owner-builds: upon receiving a certificate of occupancy.
